Talk with Liz
What or who
was the inspiration behind the book?
The books of Marie
Claire’s Creative Director, Nina Garcia—The Little Black Book of Style, The
One Hundred, The Style Strategy, and Nina
Garcia’s Look Book.
What's the
story behind the book? What made you decide to publish such?
It was
actually Kris Aquino’s idea. One day, she told me it was about time for me to
publish and work on a book about style. In my ten years in the industry, I would
like to share what I know and what I’ve learned, to share about my experiences
as a stylist, and hope that they discover their StyLIZed-self
after reading my book.
What was the
process like? Which was the most challenging part?
I didn’t know I had to go through
this kind of process, it was all so tedious—think non-stop editing,
proof-reading, color correction (for all images and illustrations), scheduling
of shoots, and so much more. Imagine, it took as an hour to get the perfect
shot of a watch! But the most challenging part was the shoot with all the
celebrities. It took two days and we had to book the best makeup artists,
hairstylists, and photographers for that shoot. In the end, we made it and I’m
very happy.
Take us
through the process of styling a celebrity for an event or photo shoot?
It is definitely a long process and
not an easy one. I would have to coordinate with the brand or client, the
agency, and of course, the celebrity. And after that, I would create an outfit
based on what is needed and what was talked about, and finally, I make sure
that the celebrity feels great and comfortable.
Who are your
style icons?
There’s just
so many! Carine Roitfeld for porno chic, Nicole
Ritchie for her
take on the '70s, Kate Moss,Olivia Palermo for her polished feminine look, and Ines
de la Fressage for
her chicness.
What is the
importance of appearance for you?
It is saying who you are without
having to speak.
Where do you
see yourself in 5 years?
Happily married! (Haha!)
What do you
think of Philippine fashion?
Philippine fashion is very
promising, I get to work and discover so many talented people in this field,
and realize that we have so much talent to share to the world.
Describe an
outfit that will ultimately define Liz Uy's style.
An all-black ensemble: A sleek
jumpsuit paired with pointy pumps. Because it can be dressed down and played up
yet still look chic.
Pick one,
just one item, from your closet that you feel you will never ever let go of.
My pair of diamond earrings.
